Are there obstacles to building successful money making venture online?

Truth be told, money is a motivating factor in online business and offline businesses. A lot of people would agree that making money online isn’t the primary objective, which I agree but a blog that makes no money will soon disappear or make the owner regret ever setting it up.

I started a blog out of passion and never really imagined earning money from it. But it turned out I needed to renew web hosting subscription for 2 years and I also must pay for email marketing service (autoresponder).

I’m yet to find a blogger or internet marketer who pays for web hosting and other marketing tools and resources with ‘passion.’ Passion has its place but you need money to make it blissful and exceptional.

Without much ado, here are 5 obstacles stopping you from making a living as a blogger. Enjoy it:

1 – No Clear Thinking

I once suffered from this blogging obstacle and it caused me a whopping $1,028 in get-rich-quick schemes. If I had a clear thought about internet marketing, knowing it’s not a hit-and-run affair, I would have seen a clearer picture and write down clearer, more realistic and smart goals.

Lack of clear thinking would channel you to the wrong business model. For everyone who wants to increase earnings online, no matter what niche you’ve chosen, it’s vital to think clearly from the onset. Know what you truly want and have the urge and enthusiasm to achieve it.

It may take some time to materialize, but with clear objectives, which come as a result of ‘immaculate thoughts,’ making money online can be fun and worthwhile.

2 – You’re Not Convinced

How much conviction do you’ve before starting a blog? For me, I wasn’t really convinced that I can make money from blogging. But I had passion for writing and knew it was enough to begin.

Personal conviction is good, but you need external forces to pat your head. I mean, you should have read success stories of people who started from nothing, but turned into something, later – conviction from within and without is paramount to overcoming every business obstacle.

If you don’t believe in a goal, how can you achieve it? I had a personal mentor who convinced me beyond all reasonable doubts that blogging is potent enough to send me to the bank every week (generate income). I didn’t know what writing for money was, back in 2007. Lack of conviction is a terrific blogging obstacle – don’t leave home without a strong conviction that success is your right and sure.

3 – You Can’t Write Well

Sounds ridiculous, right?

Well, I’ve a strong feeling that if every blogger out there can write well, he or she can make good money online. Oftentimes, bloggers forget the inherent ability to make money off their blogs. You’re not limited to affiliate marketing, or the so-called banner advertising on your blog. As a matter of facts, selling your personal services can make you a lot of money.

Before I built a cognitive blog, I was writing simple SEO contents for clients and getting paid. It’s a great feeling to know that you can write your way to big paycheck. A lot of freelance writers are making a killing (I’m a success story).

No, not what you think. You don’t have to write a masterpiece to win a Pulitzer Prize Award, or write to impress readers. The goal is to ‘express’ your views about a topic or subject using simple terms, sentences and light paragraphs.

Here’s a shocker: Everyone can write articles, but not everybody can write good articles. Can you change the world with words then you would definitely make more money blogging, more than a blogger who couldn’t type well?

4 – You Don’t Have A Product

This blogging obstacle is closely-tied to “you can’t write well.” Let’s look at it critically: every blogger is required to sell a product or multiple products. Look at the industry experts and probloggers, they all sell a product or service.

And I’m not asking you to sell an affiliate product, that could pay your Electricity Bills, but I mean a real product. It could be tangible or intangible. If you’re good at keyword research, you could sell that skill to potential niche marketers and bloggers and make money (help them research long-tail keywords and make a swipe file).
Relying on affiliate offers as your ultimate money-maker can be detrimental. Yes, affiliate marketing is superb and I love it, but for long-term success, creating a product of your own is necessary.

I can’t imagine a blogger who cannot solve problems – what exactly is he or she doing to make the world a better place.

Stop reading other people’s products and using their software, plugins and themes (except to learn), it’s time to get yours. I’m not joking man; you need to map out strategies to create a product. Create an e-book, a hard copy book, develop wordpress plugins or themes. Or, simply sell your consulting skills.

5 – You Have No Buyers

A month ago, a friend of mine sold his blog, realized $1,250 and went back in search of a good paying 9-5 job (he got a job, was a good one). I think he made the right decision, because he wasn’t making any money from his blog.
He was literally wasting time. Although, perseverance can be the key to blog success and I’ve seen its results in my business, but when you’ve immediate needs, blogging might not be right for you. Making money from a blog can be slower than building a skyscraper (don’t be scared, just joking).

Every internet marketer knows what I’m saying. Without targeted traffic, you cannot make money online. Whether you’re hosting a webinar or launching a product, it’s the chain of buyers (active readers) that will buy from you. Afterwards, you can promote the product to fresh buyers.

Do you know that a blog can make plenty of money by accident, if the right prospects are reading it? Sounds weird, but it’s the reality. A lot of bloggers are unable to generate substantial income from their blogs because the traffic is zero or little. And even the tickles of traffic are generic and kids. Step 1/3: Understand the system

The trading system shown here is based on the monitoring of trends , a strategy widely used by many professional traders and recognized for its effectiveness. An asset rises or falls when pushed in that direction by large financial powers that influence the financial markets such as investment funds and banks. The principle of this method is very simple:

If the recent history of an asset shows a significant and constant increase, it is more probable that it will continue to rise in the near future in that direction rather than the probability that it will go the other way. We will therefore invest on the asset going up.

Obviously, the same logic applies in the case of decline.

Recognize trends – Recognize a pattern on a graph is very simple. It is easiest to use 5 minutes graphs as seen below. The “candles” on the graph represents a period of time equivalent to 5 minutes . Here are the trends that we can detect:

Step 2/3: The best amounts to invest

Even when you follow the system perfectly, it is normal to lose some of the positions that you open, it is very unlikely to win all of the trades you will do.

My method of trend following will enable you to win more trading then the ones that will be lost, which leads to you earning significantly on your account. There may be a bad day where you will make several losing trades, that is why it is important to follow up with this strict rule of investment:

• If you have $200 in your account, each open position should be $10 tops
• If you have $500 in your account, each open position should be $25 tops
• If you have $1,000 in your account, each open position should be $50 tops
• If you have $2,000 in your account, each open position should be $100 tops
• If you have $5,000 in your account, each open position should be $250 tops

And so on: each position you open should not represent more than 5% of your capital.

Last weekend, I was at a Joel Bauer Passion 2 Profit event. For those who don’t know, Joel Bauer is a speaker trainer. However, most might know him as the guy who claims your business card is crap.

In addition to making fun of people’s business cards, Mr. Bauer runs a two-day seminar that is really the pre-sell to a super-slick sales pitch designed to separate you from $15,000. What are you buying? Training with Joel, so he can teach you to do what he does: speak in front of a room of people to make them part with $15,000.

Mr. Bauer is an expert presenter, and it really was amazing to watch him work the room. He was the only speaker I have ever seen to tell the audience that he was going to lie to them and got a positive reaction. Though he doesn’t claim it, Mr. Bauer is an obvious expert on NLP. Fortunately, English is my second language, and I look at all presentations from a marketer’s standpoint, so NLP doesn’t work on me.

Joel surrounds himself in an environment where you can’t really question anything he says or does. You know that if you try, the JBCs (Joel Bauer Clones) are going to boot you out of the room and possibly beat you up in the alley. Joel mention more than once that many of his students in the room were ex-military or Black Belts. You can tell who the Joel Bauer students were because they’re clones that dressed just like him: black suit with pink shirt and pink tie.

The two-day seminar was extremely long. The second day started at 6AM and didn’t end until 7PM. There are very little breaks in between. This is by designed. The human mind is more open to suggestions when it’s tired, and you need a pretty tired mind to convince someone to give you $15,000 for what is basically a Power Point template and a discontinued image editing program.

In an uncontrolled environment, Joel Bauer would never be able to make the presentation that he does. It would never stand up to scrutiny. His presentation is full contradictions, doublespeak, and outright lies. But he does it in such a way that the audience doesn’t even know it, nor do they seem to care. It was truly mind boggling.

I do recommend people attend a Joel Bauer seminar, so they can see how a proper smoke and mirrors presentation is done. Just keep your mind sharp (not easy to do in Bauer’s controlled environment) so you don’t get drawn into Joel’s reality distortion field and end up parting with $15,000.

Things are always done differently in Orange County, so I guess I shouldn’t expect kiddie birthday parties to be the same as Vancouver. For one thing, nearly all the OC birthday parties are done outdoor. You have the great Southern California weather to thank for that. In addition to the standard inflatable castle, this birthday party included horseback riding and a miniature train. I hope Sally is not expecting a bigger production when her birthday rolls around.

It takes patience and years and years of hard work. So, if you are an Internet Marketer looking to make it big, or an overweight fellow looking to get the mouth-watering figure you have always yearned for, you should be ready for a long journey, that too full of bumps.

You Must Persist

Talking of the journey, reaching to your destination, whether it is the waste size that you were aiming for or the number of unique visitors that you’d like to have, is never going to be an overnight accomplishment. I’ve seen many going for the glory and then stopping as soon as the initial excitement fizzles out. It’s good to have big ambitions, but you must cherish the smaller milestones to keep getting the much needed motivation, to make sure that you don’t stop in the middle. It always takes some time, months, or even years, but that’s not really a big price to pay when you look at the rewards.

So, whenever you are facing a setback, and you feel that you don’t have the energy or patience to carry on, try to remind yourself of the rewards and consequences of giving up, and how you will regret it later on.

Stick The Basic and Time Tested Methods:

There’s an entire world of hogwash and half-baked theories on internet, especially when it comes to the highly searched topics like weight loss and internet marketing. Being humans, we are inclined to opt for the shorter and the easier routes, the problem is, nature has its own pace and its own laws, and in most cases, opting for the shorter routes for success, fame, or money will backfire. Therefore, you have got to stick to the time tested methods. They might not be as quick in delivering sizeable results, but when the results come, they are going to be a lot more endurable and long term. You shouldn’t be doing a lot of experiments with your health or online business, because that’s a risk not worth taking.

Keeping Track

A very important routine that many Internet Marketers ignore is to try and keep track of their progress, and same is true for the people looking to lose weight. Keeping track ensures that you will be able to see the distance you have made. If you keep on waiting for the ultimate goal and forget to keep a tab on your progress, you will never be satisfied. Also, the graph showing your progress (or vice versa) will let you identify the methods or approaches that really worked, so that you can focus more on these methods and stop wasting time and money on others.

Self-Control and Application Is Important

Make sure that you are keeping up with the pace of the nature, both when setting your expectations, as well as making the effort to get there. My friend Daniel Scocco over at Daily Blog Tips has posted a really nice article on how to make money on YouTube. In the post, Daniel details the step-by-step on how to become a YouTube partner.

In a nutshell you make money on YouTube by becoming a YouTube partner, which allows you to display ads on your videos, and then you earn a percentage of the revenues generated by clicks on those ads, much like with AdSense. As for how much money you can actually make, I heard numbers anywhere from $3 up to $10 per 1,000 video views.

In addition to becoming a YouTube partner, you can use YouTube to promote affiliate offers from networks like Amazon.com. An example of how this work would be the video I did with Sally Chow on how to create a paperless office.

The video was put up 18 months ago and has averaged 1,800 views per month. The YouTube pre-roll video ad makes around $10 to $15 per month, but the real money comes from sales of the ScanSnap 1300 scanner I recommend in the video. The affiliate link is embedded both in the description and in the video itself. When a user clicks the link and buys the product from Amazon.com, I get a commission.

Where The Traffic Comes From

Many people may not realize this, but YouTube is the second biggest search engine in the world, and when a user searches for “paperless office” on YouTube, my video is at the number-one position.

This is enough to send the video 1,800 people each month. That will result in five to ten sales of the $249 scanner every month. Since putting it on YouTube, the video has made me an average of $150 a month in affiliate commissions from Amazon.com (plus $10 to $15 from YouTube video ads). Not bad for something I created 18 months ago.

How did I rank the video at the top spot? Nobody really knows how the YouTube video ranking works, but most will agree that YouTube gives preference to their partners. Therefore, it’s to your benefit to do the step-by-step on Daniel’s post on how to become a YouTube partner. Not only will this make you money with YouTube ads, but your affiliate products review videos will rank higher in searches, and make you even more money.

I get many emails from new bloggers asking what’s the best way to make money online and my answer hasn’t changed – build traffic with quality content and then monetize that content in the most efficient way possible. Unfortunately, most bloggers go with the easiest way instead of the most efficient way. They end up setting up their blog with Google ads and nothing else.

Google AdSense, while easy to apply for and set up, is one of the most inefficient ways to monetize a blog. The rates are very low, and you have almost no control over what type of ads shows up. The average Google ad nets $1 to $2 per 1000 views (CPM). Considering that many blog don’t even get 1,000 page views a month, you’ll be lucky if make enough for a cup a coffee. Luckily, there are ad networks that pay a lot more than Google, and the most profitable way for a low traffic blogs to make money online is with Social Spark.

Best Way for Smaller Blogs To Monetize Content

Social Spark allows bloggers to monetize their blogs with sponsored content. Most of the time, this content is done with a paid blog post, but there are also sponsored videos and social media campaigns as well. Social Spark is ideal for low traffic blogs because the effective CPM is extremely high, making it perfect for smaller blogs.
